RIP some great players lost that day.

Bit of trivia but who was the last footballer involved in the crash to stop playing professional football. He stopped in the last 5 years!

Maybe it should be mentioned as a tribute to all those who tragically died that their deaths probably saved the lives of thousands if not many more. The crash investigation pioneered the research into take-offs in winter including de-icing, runway slush build-up etc., which ultimately led to today's procedures and safe take-offs in winter conditions.

My mind often drifts to the Munich Disaster when we're sat at the end of the runway (in Munich!) being de-iced before take-off.

Ahh! That explains why I can never find the departure gate :wink3:

(have lived in Munich since 1980 )

PS: the Riemer Arkaden Shopping centre at the old Munich Riem Airport is a damned sight more interesting to spend 3 hours in than the old Flughafen ever was!

dunno much about the new airport (or the old one, come to that) ... passed thro' en route to the olympic stadium to see utd. in '98 .... problem was three hour, intoxicating delay at manchester, and then 'they' had the audacity to drop us at the site of the oktoberfest(?) in the afternoon .... missed the whole of the match as i was unconscious in the stadium lavatory...:toilet:
