View Full Version : The 360 - what are the common faults?
Some 360s are starting to get a little long in the tooth now. The early ones that you can pick up for under 60K, are typically I guess around 6 years old now and higher mileage.
All Ferrari models have their good and bad points in terms of engineering and reliability. My question is, what are the faults of the 360? (I dont mean in terms of styling - that is totally subjective).
Can owners or people with experience list the faults they have encountered and the associated costs.
I am not asking for this exersise to be done because I want to buy, instead I'm just interested to see what mistakes Ferrari have made with this model and whether they have successfully built on their experiences with the later 355 variants.
I have been totally upfront about my experience with my 355 (good and very bad), so I would appreciate total honesty, rather than ownership clouding judgement. That would be smashing
cheers lads

I do know that some early 360s had con rod problems. Apparencly the shells would spin in the rods. The con rod type was changed after the first year of production. I saw this first hand when i was at Shiltec Ferrari and the technician told me about the problem while he was rebuilding the bottom end of a 99 360 coupe. It was one of a few that they had done but Ferrari never did a recall.

I was told that the oil pressure sender unit and pressure switch for the F1 gearbox were fairly common problems

Had mine for just over a month '99 Modena'. Done about 1,000 miles (its now done 11,500 miles). Got to take it back to NC's to sort out a rattle which is thought to be bush related. Other than that, the car drives and feels better than any other car I've owned, and that includes the most reliable Tuetonic *****

The oil temperature dial's on some cars fail.
It is actually the same old "bad earthing" problem that plagued the 348's and 355's!
In fact 360's have all kinds of bad earth problems so checking earthing straps is part of the annual service!
Also the F1 auto's go through clutches quite quickly compared to manual's... I don't think the clutches are actually that robust actually, perhaps its just the software :) actually the F1 software on all 360 F1's can be reflashed with the program out of the 360CS to gain the 100ms shifting! Its just software people, its just like upgrading from Windows 2000 to XP :)
The 360's are very much more of an everyday kind of car than ever before so they are actually quite good in this respect.
