Started the machine polishing process today. Only had a couple of hours so decided to focus on the rear of the car. I will tackle the doors, wings and bonnet another time.
The paint on the rear deck is very, very thin and is single stage (no clear coat) so I had to be extremely careful. For this I used a dual action polisher, which is generally safer than rotary. The rear deck only had minor swirls (more visible in direct sunlight) so very light compound is all that's required.
After removing all existing polish with GTechniq panel wipe, I ran two stages on the rear deck. First was with Menzerna Power Finish 2400 followed by Menzerna Super Finish 4000. Both with a black Meguires 7" finishing pad.

The paint on the rear quarter panels is much thicker multi layer and clear coated but I chose to run the same process as correction required was minimal.

For paint measurements I use a Paint Detective PD8 gauge.

Once the rear and rear quarters were complete, I laid down two layers of my posh Swissvax carnauba wax.

All in this took my a couple of hours. Really happy with the result. Finish is now flawless. iPhone pics don't really do it justice but here you go...

I've used two machines on my Ferrari. Mainly I've used this. It's a Meguires G220 v2.

It's ideal for the amateur / occasional user and because it's dual action it's pretty safe. It can be used for all but the most severe paint correction and gives a mirror finish you will never achieve by hand - assuming it's used properly and with appropriate compound and pads.

I used it to correct some minor imperfections on my rear deck. The paint is so thin I didn't want to risk taking too much off.

I also have a Flex rotary as I'm doing more and more of this work now for friends and club members etc. This is easier to work with and reduces compounding time significantly. It's very powerful though and needs much more experience than the Meg's DA but the results are even better.

I used this on the rear quarter panels and rollover bar/panel and will use it with the same two stage compounds as above on the rest of the car where the paint is thicker and is clear coated.

Pm me if you want some more detailed advice. I've unwittingly become a bit nerdy on this subject as you've probably worked out by now - happy to share.

    Cheers.

Finished most of the paintwork today. Surprising hard work but well worth the effort. Blinging now
