Replacement rear light gasket arrived this morning. I managed to track one down from a place on the US via FC.
At first glance in not convinced it is the right part. Too bulky and doesn't have the lip that the original has.

    Should it look like this?

Nice run out at the end of the month for you and I could take a look at your car :-)

I'll check it out Jeff. Looks more planes than cars but it could be good enough reason for a drive out.

Another job I want to get done this winter. I had the alarm system removed but the switch and red light are still there like a big pimple!

I think I'll need to get the holes filled somehow and have it re-trimmed. A job for the professionals...

    Default The Pimple

Spoke to KHPC this morning re the re-trimming of the centre console. The advice was that new leather, whilst the correct original spec, would result in a colour / texture mismatch as the original leather has changed colour so much over the years. This likely to look so different to the adjacent leather that it could look worse than keeping the pimple.

Now I don't know what to do I think my options are:

1/ Live with it - after all it's part of the car's 80's history and character
2/ Remove the pimple/switch and cover the holes with a chrome horse, FOC badge or similar
3/ Try and find somewhere that will match the leather

Now I realise it may not be a straightforward job I'm leaning towards Option 1.

Any thoughts, other ideas or previous experience would be very welcome

I think I'd leave them in. They look period, you may need the holes for something in time, and certainly something there looks better than a repair that might scream at you for ever more (whilst keeping an eye out for a replacement)
And definately if you fitted a modern alarm, with a valet switch, I'd want to re-use that old period switch/led

Graham I have bought in the past perfect leather matches from here.

    http://martrim.co.uk/

They have hundreds perhaps thousands of hides so it is hard to image they cannot get a match.

I have been there and purchased hides a few times.

When you are ready if you remove the panel, strip the knobs and switches and send it to me, I will go there and try and find a match. If no match just refit, if there is a match I know a man near me that will do a perfect job for you.

That's great Terry. Thank you. I will take you up on your kind offer as ideally, I'd like to sort it if possible.

I'll need to figure out how to remove the panel and switches first - I'm a major amateur at this stuff but I am enjoying the learning process.

I understand that the a/c temp control knob (the blue one) is difficult to remove and re-fit. Either way I'll need to seek some guidance on the process from those who know the car better than I.

The Mrs is out tonight so I will mostly be staying at home restoring my steering wheel. Tragic LOL.
