Eventually received the soft touch lacquer for the interior parts Ive been waiting for. Long story. Back order, bull****, etc etc. Anyway, managed to get it all done now. I chose this route to be original on the finish and possibly some might frown at this due to the bad reputation of soft touch. I spoke to a friend of a friend who has worked extensively with this product in recent times and he believes the modern formulas to be much more resilient and not so prone to the old issues. Often used on mobile phones etc which are handled constantly.
Im very pleased with the results. The finish is what I expected and has a velvety/rubber feel. It appears to be a very tough surface and not easy to mark. Checked out on a test piece beforehand.

    Process was...
    1. Plastic or metal primer where appropriate.
    2. Black mid sheen base coat.
    3. Clear coat matt soft touch lacquer. (mixed with activator and thinning agent). Two coats. Maybe three. Depends how much goes on per coat really.
    4. Low bake oven for 80mins approx. ( you can handle it without a problem after this stage.)

This will beat anything out of a rattle can I'm sure.

    Some pics.

Thanks Terry. Not available in small quantities but here is the spec sheet. Its an industry product rather than a refinish so it had to be 5 litres of lacquer so can work out expensive to buy all three components. Hardener is the costly bit I believe. We had enough hardener in stock as John had previously done a large batch of phone covers for a company but he used all the lacquer so I had to buy that.
Around 80 inc. vat. It is a nice product though. Any 2k thinners should work fine. Advice from there supplier.

This is a new HVAC / switch panel I picked up from Maranello classic parts. Just the plastic surround. Its painted in soft touch as you would expect and its not sticky which is good. It was useful to have as a reference for the finish of the rest of the parts Ive done. As you can see it matches very well for colour and sheen with the fresh soft touch so Ive fitted it as it is. Any issues in the future can be easily sorted but I think things will be ok. Im sure its not a 25 year old NOS part and was probably remanufactured in recent times. No one really knew.

Cheers Jeff. The decals were made on a vinyl cutter. Quite thin sheet. My mate put the H gate on the panel to have a look. I did notice later. He's a knob.

Glad you fixed the hand brake issue without to much fuss.

    Hi Guys
I have followed this 348 restoration and I take my hat off to you.
    Total devotion to detail.
Having purchased only 2 weeks ago a 1994 348 GTB with 21k Klms on her.
Exterior perfect but need help for restoring the interior, hence my interruption sorry.
Wanted to find the right products to start this restoration myself.
    Cheers John
