    Default whoops - accident damage!

Out in the 430 I hit a small animal which disappeared into the bushes at the side of the road. Bit of a thump so I dont think it was long for this life. Anyway, it stoved in the wire mesh grille on the drivers side air intake, ripping it from its fixings. It will have to be replaced.

How easy is it to get at this grille? I am reasonably handy so if its a simple unbolt job, I'll do it myself. Is the spare part likely to be available outside the dealer network?

Its a bit esoteric for Halfords but a new one is about 120 - if you are lucky Eurospares or another breaker (try a search) might have a second hand one

OK - how do I get the existing one off and the new one in?

Afraid it's a bumper off job. There are two nuts on each side that are accessed via rubber bungs at the front of the luggage compartement. There are a few fastenings in each wheel arch and along the underside of the bumper/undertray. It's quite straightforward just mind the headlamp washer jet supply hose.

so its not possible just to drop the front undertray and grope up inside the bumper to unscrew the grille fixings. A bit to my surpsie the animal tore the wire of the grille leaving the grille frame firmly attached to the bumper.

This guide you may find helpful:

I've had mine off to do some repairs and it's straightforward enough if you are comfortable with spanners in hand
