Track Day

So attending the Supercar Event has got me looking/thinking about track days and I need to go on one....
Any suggestions/advice on the best way of going about this?

What would I need apart from a lid (which I have)?
Fire extinguisher?

Musts
Use my own car
As low a risk as possible accepting some risk is inevitable but I guess some tracks are better than other.
Some tuition.

Nice to haves
Ideally within 100 miles of mid-Cheshire.
Sunny hot day

Not bothered about...
Cost providing the ‘musts’ are met.

I’ve been looking for one this year as well.

I’ve decided to do a FOC one next year for a number of reasons.
1) like minded people. I don’t want to be on the same track as a bunch of widevboys in escorts/Audis etc. I’ve done track days on bikes before and they are just down right dangerous.
2) my insurance will cover me for free on a foc event, generally because of 1 above.
3) I want to enjoy it!!!

Most places you only need long sleeves and a helmet. The car must be road legal obviously.

Noise limits are something to consider. Most tracks have different limits so read the small print and if in doubt take a run up to one before for a check.

I was recommended a sprint track, details in a desperate post somewhere on here that looks fun, but I don’t really have time this year.

I’d be interested to know what you find out, and if you need an extra car let me know

Maybe there would be enough interest on here to organise our own ???

I'd consider an airfield day. Not sure of availability your way and I know it's a fair way but Abingdon is a good venue and happy to recommend an instructor as well.

You'll learn the limits of the car and even maybe a bit beyond them in a safe environment

Interesting your faith in FOC days, my experience in doing 100's of trackdays over the last 20 Years is they have the worst accident record and lost track time I've ever seen

That was where we met you with the Caterham wasn’t it Mark? That looked very tight, although I couldn’t see much of the track.

I’ll look into it .....TBH I don’t mind travelling to the right event.

Blimey! Only 30 minutes away from this place and didn't know it existed. Need to check it out as would like to stretch the 458 Legally.

I wouldn't say "faith", more ignorance of any other suitable alternative from the bog standard track day open to anybody with a car!!!

More than happy to do something else!! (I'll find the other post with the sprint classes on it later.)
