Default PPI's - Big range of pricing?

Based on advice received on here and Facebook, what ever 348 I buy I'll be getting a PPI on it. I've been talking to some of the Indies and have had quotes from two and the price range is big! Is there a big difference in what they provide? Is it an hourly rate thing? And in regards to Indies, any recommendations or ones to avoid?

Here is a summary of my experience so far:

Shiltech Performance: really friendly in both email exchanges and calls, confident they'd be good to deal with. Would be my most local too. Didn't talk prices as the car I'm currently most interested in is too far away.
Verdi Ferrari: Again friendly on phone and emails. Get the impression they'd be really good to deal with. Local to the car I like and seem to know it well. Price for a PPI £350
DK Engineering: Quite abrupt in their initial emails, quote email professional and come back to me quite quickly. Quote for PPI is £300 admin plus £115 ph for the inspection (needs 6-8hrs) So between £990 - £1,220 for a PPI

£1,220 is a lot more than I paid for a PPI.
Shiltech are friendly. I know Geoff pretty well - he PPI'd my car and did my last engine out belt change.

Go on reputation; the difference your talking about can very quickly disappear on repairs if something is missed or not properly represented so I wouldn’t put price at the top of my priority list when selecting somebody to do a ppi. (I certainly wouldn’t put how friendly a company is on my list of priorities, whilst it makes life easier, it has nothing to do with what you are after. This is a business agreement, at the end of the day and it’s all about competencies)

Have you spoken to Tim Walker yet?

As to one in particular, as Pete says, do some google digging.

Tim walker did mine (even though it was in London, a long way from where he is based) and I was happy with it and the price was good. You might also like to contact Mark Wibberly at More Than Polish (one of the sponsors here) who has a PPI network

Near Wales rather than in Wales Tim helped me a lot when I was looking for mine 9 or so years ago and we’ve stayed in touch ever since. If I were to get another car it’d be Tim I’d be asking to check it over for me.
