We're looking for a good hosting facility for this forum. Probably a managed server.

Turns out this site is busier than we all thought it was. :confused:

Between 50 to 80GB per month.

Nigel, I don't host but it's my job to set it all up for clients and other web related projects etc, I can recommend www.1and1.co.uk for hosting packages, they are IMHO the best and thats who I recommend to anyone who asks.

I normally work with clients who own a big enuff pipe to host their own stuff, or who put it to a highly available and resilient solution.

My client list has and is like:
Banks = RBS, Natwest, NAB
Manufacturering = Rolls Royce, Ford Morotor Company, SAIC, BP
Government = NCIS(MI6), LSC(Education)

and a cast of thousands, but they are the main players!!

Thanks Paul.

Just contacted them regarding their dedicated server hosting.

They supply up to 100 MySQL databases, but maximum for each is 100mb.

We've used 230mb in one week.

My best guess is now to look at a dedicated line and lets lease or buy a cheap server, I'll look into whats needed this week, as I work closely with BT and might be able to pull a few strings.

We could go SDSL symmetric broadband for 2mb in and out, so what are we talking about numbers of users? It's ideal for hosting small sites wanting to grow using their own kit.

Angelis pm me with your phone number and we'll chat offline about this, as it might just be better to get out own server and line, and do it like that as disk is tuppence these days, and SDSL & ADSL is bringing the cost right down to own your own line!!

I guess a poll of possible members and possible membership cost would be the next step for budgeting your IT spend for the year.

Ideally you'd expect to lease the server over 2 maybe 3 years so montly costs are low with the possibility of upgrading without having to buy outright at the start.
