View Full Version : Question about DVLA registrations auction
I’ve never really been into personal plates, but I notice there is one I quite like at the next auction. Any one got any experience?
Questions:
Is the reserve price show close to the normal selling price?
Is it easy to bid using the internet?
Make sure you buy the plate you think you're buying.

I bought one on there in the last auction. It went well over reserve, but not all of them do. You can mostly tell beforehand which ones will.
I sent a written bid in as I had passed the internet registration deadline.
The best advice is don't buying a "naff" plate (one that you need to explain), or one that needs mis-spacing (as the police are getting stricter over time).

You also have to pay vat, 7.5% buyers premium & the £80 fee on the closing price
How long do you have until you have to put it on a car?
Yes that's right, I forgot the add-on charges.
You have 1 year to put it on a car. You can renew the period for a £25 fee though. Plates are a nice little earner for the government.
Make sure you buy the plate you think you're buying.

You can put it on anytime, or pay them 25 quid a year for filling out a form to put it on retention, money for nothing but hey thats ripoff Britain for ya!
