Show Off Your Car

SupercarSociety

New member
Hi,

We're hosting an event in Lincoln, UK later this year and are looking for Ferrari owners (and other supercars) that want to show off their cars.

This is a huge thing for the City of Lincoln, as it's been growing fast recently and wants to prove itself as a modern tech hub, which is not what Lincolnshire is traditionally known as!

It's really important that you get signed up while there's still spaces. The event is on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/165338924108270/) and you can sign up on the website (https://supercar-society.com/events/lincoln-event/)

I'd love for any feedback too!

Thanks

How come I can go and see supercars for free but to let them see my car for free I have to pay 20 quid:hmmm:

Makes no sense to me. You’re asking owners to take time of their calendar and come to help you revive the image of Lincoln, and for that privilege, you ask them to pay £20.... not a business plan I’d invest in !

This seems to be the way events are going. Wings and Wheels at Dunsfold now wants a £20 entry fee for the cars that are providing some of the entertainment.

If the entry was a reasonable amount (Say £5) and it went to charity then OK, but commercial organisations need to wake up and not charge those who are providing the attractions at the event.

I've been to W&W for a few years but not any more. I guess when the organisers find the entry list is getting smaller they will realise they have made a mistake.

I hear your point. Unfortunately it costs quite a bit to run a show like this, and it's all out of my own pocket. There's the hundreds of pounds to pay St Johns Ambulance, Council for road closures, hire of the stalls, risk assessments, stewards to marshal the event, bands and lots more. The local council are eager to get events run that are free for the general population, plus it'd be near impossible to try and charge people to enter what's essentially part of the high street of Lincoln. I don't think many would question £20 for an event, where the attendants are supercar owners. As much as I'd love to host a free-for-everyone car show, I don't have the disposable income.

If I do Carfest I get:-

Free camping all weekend in the drivers camping set up
Free food
Free drinks
Free access to the artists bar and back stage area
Free access to the paddock / drivers lounge / driving club toilets
I get run my car(s) up the hill a few times a day and get free access to the whole festival for the whole weekend - they then send a car half way through the year saying how much we helped raise for children in need.
I would never pay to display my car at such an event.
Southport / Aintree sounds very similar to this Lincoln event it’s free.

Makes more sense to me than the Lincoln thing. The City should fund it, if it's helping them promote their city!

This forum could do a Group event at Carfest?

I completely understand your view; there's only two ways to run an event really, you charge the participants or the visitors. There's pros and cons to both. I've just checked and for visitors that Carfest is £67 a day for Friday or £76 for a Saturday or Sunday.

We weighed up the options with the City of Lincoln, because we did have a view of running it at the showground, in the format you mention, free to drivers but at a cost to visitors or in our current format in the centre. The City with us decided that to draw the maximum number of people to the City, the latter option was the best, as it would highlight the heart of the City itself better and also supercar owners are generally more willing to pay a low fee of £20 to cover costs (e.g as has been mentioned many sign up to Supercar Driver and their yearly subscription covers event costs, in their case also with a fair margin).

We've had a fair few signups from locals in cars such as Jaguars, BMW, Cobra, Lamborghini but have yet to get any Astons or Ferraris hence why we're looking to see if there are people up for coming as a group with some Ferraris?

No, there are three ways to fund it. It seems the council want to promote. Promotion has a cost.

I’m not sure the council is massively bothered tbh Ken, and certainly not enough to fund it. The tech companies starting to look more at Lincoln (cheap pubs maybe?!?!?) don’t really care either. The vast majority who will go to Brayford will be locals or people just stopping by to have a look. If you want to put on a big display and ‘draw a crowd’ (as opposed to have a crowd handy) you’d put it on at the showground.

I obviously ran a car display at Scampton for a few years, guessing 300ish cars each time - FOC, Club Scuderia, Porsche Club of GB, Lotus, Bentley and TVR owners club along with the odd Lambo etc last time I did it. There we had a crowd anyway to see the aircraft but the money coming in (attendees were military families and so not charged) was from the stalls - we didn’t pay stalls to come, they paid us - and all the leg work Wayne is talking about was done for free by minions (read military personnel, of which I was one).

Just got the bill for my major service today - £4700 give or take. I could take a moral stance about not paying 20 quid to park my car for others to look at but frankly it’ll make **** all difference to my ‘running costs. Maybe I’ll just drive there without flooring it, 1990s Ferrari fuel ecconomy - that ought to about cover the £20 and then some

OK, for council read City of Lincoln whoever they are. The point is those who stand to gain should take the risk and finance it. £1, £20 or £5,000, the point is the same.

+1

It's not as if this event is for charity.

And my point is the city of Lincoln has bugger all to gain, not really. They certainly wouldn't pay to have it happen. Why would they? You're talking the general population of the city, the vast majority of who won't go and will have zero interest in it, paying to have Supercars parked up for a day through their council tax. The council would just say "Go hold it at the showground and charge entry" but I doubt the event would be big enough to warrant that.

Around these parts if you want to go and look at flash cars (or any cars for that matter) we have regular 'Horsepower at the Hall' gatherings and if you own a Supercar and driving's more your thing as opposed to posing, SCD is actually based in these parts. The local FOC (run by Wibbers on here) is pretty active for the Ferrari crowd and there are active groups who have regular meets at the other end of the price spectrum like Lincs Driver.

No way would the council pay. They might agree to allow the event to go ahead but they're not about to fork out for it.

When I used to do the Scampton gatherings we used to ask for £10 per car but with zero costs and zero profit 100% of that went to Help for Heroes. Here any costs will be taken out of your £20 (and I'm surprised they're paying stalls to come, I used to charge them - captive audience for them and all that.....) and the profit will go to the organisers. Would have loved to have taken profit for all the faff of organising the Scampton meets each year but I've a nagging suspicion my Station Commander may have wanted a chat if I had

This is clearly a 'for profit' rather than 'for charity' event. If that offends then don't go. I confess I hadn't looked at the details when I first posted (owners paying rather than viewers). Doesn't bother me overly but I'm less inclined to go simply because I'm at a loose end.

Was about time to have a bit of preventative maintenance carried out to set her up for the next couple of belt change cycles so maybe 8 years or so. The engine out service itself was £1500 after vat. Water pump (never been changed as far as I can tell), radiator, hoses, cam seals, valve clearances and few other bits and bobs - it all adds up.

I can't see what the issue is here -

If you like showing your car off - this provides a great opportunity and £20 is what it will cost you. Somebody was asking the other day why there were none of these type of events going on!

The organiser has to do loads of work to get this event running and no doubt insurances etc. For example the similar Bristol Italian day isn't going ahead this year as I don't think they can get enough volunteers, that used to be £10 or £15 and I dont remember any complaints. Perhaps our Friends on the east side are a bit harder up?

As for the council ponying up are you kidding? they cant even afford to fill potholes in.

If you are a driver you can pay lots more to to go on an organised event.

The reality is that your assertion is simply not true:

If I attended your meet it would be the first one I have EVER paid to show my car.

Cars and coffee north west free
Aintree free
Supercar Sunday’s at Myton Hall - free
Gumball - Manchester stop - free
Carfest - free to people showing cars
Tatton Park - free
Help for heroes
Race for heroes
The list goes on...

The only place I would pay to be an exhibitor of my car is at an auction.

You have to provide something for exhibitors such as track time or something for it to be of value to them IMO
The prices for Carfest are for a music / car festival but they are FREE for exhibitors
