Which members currently participate in Motorsport ?

CGF

2009 Re-post champion. Again
Watching James Martin last night made me wonder which members on CS currently or recently have any Motorsport experience, not including track days. ??

Might be interesting if there are any circuit, hillclimb, sprint, rally guys here or indeed bike racers.

I used to race a road racing sidecar outfit many moons ago, rallycross a 1340cc full race mini and some stage rallying at club level in a Mk1 RS2000 but that was all about 30 years ago,..... before I got married and those pleasures were quickly taken away when I did... :laugh:

Nice to hear about more up to date and recent experiences please.

Chaz

I used to race Formula Ford in the eighties in Scotland, won the champion of Oulton FF1600 championship in 1998, other highlight was outqualifying Pedro de la rosa at Brands Hatch FF festival in 1990.....Since retiring from driving have been involved in the Ferrari challenge,British GT,FIA GT and LMES championships with Scuderia Ecosse including 2 Le Mans 24hours and 2 Spa 24 hours as a race mechanic running 360GTC,NGT and 430 GT cars...lots and lots of stories

I participate in motorsport as an assistant, coach, advisor, meteorologist, supporter, photographer.

This means I help the other half in club motorsport on UK circuits.
.....and not surprisingly he is in the garage right now (wiring), his second home.

I enjoy watching the racing, but have no desire to take part.

Colin, start a new thread for your stories (nice history)

Scuderia Ecosse is a good team. Stewart Roden is a nice guy and has always made time to talk to me at events or FOC track days:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I always make a point of following their exploits at least via Autosport.

Afraid ...none of the above... only "circuit" would be the wine bar sort, "Hillclimb" would be the stairs to my bed and "Sprint" only to the sales, so that's me out!

I have known Stewart for more than 20 years and like me he wants to win all the time....which is a good thing

Many many moons ago :cry3::cry3:

Used to run a heavily modded RS2000 with a friend - tarmac rallies:thumbsup:

Most embarrassing moment - losing it in front of hundreds of spectators at a Carerra Sport day at Goodwood in the early 90's :-(

Entered a 750 Motor Club race "Lotus Challenge" I think it was called at Snetterton.

Anything Lotus inc Caterhams, Cortinas, Esprits, Sevens, Sunbeams etc.

Getting to know the track on the 2nd lap, came up behind a couple of mobile chicanes (Esprits) entering the hairpin.... came out level with them and.... BANG! Engine let go big time. Fishing bits of piston out of the air filter in the paddock wasn't fun. :cry3:

Does the Brighton Speed Trials count?

i raced a fiesta mk 2 last season and won 9 trophies out of 12 races. i am hoping to build a v8 stockcar to race next year, my dad was the most successful driver ever in a v8 stockcar and won absolutely everything possible. he was british champion a few years running.

That sounds really interesting Colin and must be a good buzz being a part of the Scuderia Ecosse team.
Bet you have a few interesting stories there.

With your experience with Ferrari and having your own garage do you get much service work from Ferrari owners, or offer a service like some of the specialists dahn saff ??
Where are you located ?? I am guessing your in the central belt somewhere.

A' the best and lang may yer lumb reek !! :)

Chaz

Hi Chaz,
I am in linlithgow West Lothian, and have had a number of clients with Ferrari's, however due to the bread and butter side of the business taking up so much time I have never really promoted it....going to take another look at it in the new year as it may be a good time to enter the market.

All the best for 2009

Colin.
