Default Replacement Service Book - Would it put you off buying?

    Gents,

I am interested in buying a 360 but am in a bit of a quandary. I like everything about the car except for the fact that it has a replacement service book (all but 2 are main dealer stamps) and only a few invoices to back everything up. The car has 16,000 miles on it and the condition is commensurate with the mileage. The car was bought by the current owner (5 years ago) from Stratstone, who lost the original service book. They supplied a replacement and had the various dealers re-stamp the book.

Would these facts put you off buying the car? What effect would this have on the value of the car?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I would be looking for a decent discount, but No it wouldn't put me off as it's the main dealers.

Would be a different story if it had been Indys.

Cheers. The last two are with R&D and they have confirmed that the stamps are valid.

Nope - have bought & sold as such through dealers - as long as the dealership ensures the replacements are stamped all should be fine.

Nope it would not put me off as long as I could make sure I had most of the stamps, my car had two stamps missing but I did have the invoices from Maranello so just asked them to re-stamp the book, all done and now perfect, it can take time but should be worth it. If you are keeping it for 10 years it wont matter as you will have added more to the history by then.

The last two at R&D would be enough for me.

I did get offered a stamped up book on a Mazda once, from a main dealer. That was many years ago and a Mazda

This car is getting to an age where many have lost their service book and most will have been serviced outside the franchise network which as Malc suggests some might view as positive

The most recent service history (which is your prime concern not its earliest history) and the MOT's should always match up however

I had to get a replacement service book for mine. Previous owner lost it (I checked with the dealer before I bought the car and had a print out of all the work done) I can tell you, with what I had to go through to get a replacement service book, it would not put me off a car, it was a nightmare!
