I like and prefer bumper skid plates as they do prevent scuffing the underside paintwork by easing the car over bumps when going slowly and carefully, useful when manoeuvring. As has been said Hill Engineering work well for this purpose and fit well using the supplied hardware.
In the attached picture the two visible socket head screws (could be 3) are the adjustment when the gear lever is moved across the gate. They could have come loose causing the shaft to rotate slightly away from reverse causing insufficient movement to engage reverse.
I think Dunlop 65 would work well. Not a great deal of product is needed to slightly soften the soft touch coating it's the firm rub off with the microfibre that gets it off, you see the results looking at the cloth and keep re-applying until it's all off. I used something else on my switches a...

I have two spare sets:
Both passenger mats are excellent shape and the drivers are as per pictures - fasteners missing (may have replacements somewhere) and the edge near accelerator pedal torn.
I have a few pictures from fuel line replacement I did on my 355b a few years ago. You may be aware of this but just in case.
Old and new side by side. a very old recall was on the type of material on the fittings .
The part number is stamped on the end fittings but I do not recall a date...
Looking through some of my old records, I recall that it was the motor contained within the lock mechanism that failed.
I tracked down a supplier for the motor in Singapore and IIRC I purchased a couple but only used one.
It was one of these two but do not recall which.
Of course changing...
I would suggest you have two faults, the red light on is the siren battery (fix posted by Steve (redwedge) and the other is the lock mechanism in the door.
One of the door lock mechanisms is not locking the door and telling the other door not to lock hence neither are locking.
Have you tried...
