348 make it the best

First time from 2022 see the sun light. It is so beautiful :)
Finally main service time. Hope after few weeks will drive that beauty home :)
My car's also away having her major engine out service at the moment. Hope they'll be done later this week.

As often the situation is not perfect. The car needs more love then initially expected. there are a lot of oil leaks, so the heads need to go out. The costs will kill me.
fortunatelly spring and summer will refund behind the wheel :)

It's sometimes the way when it comes to a major service with these cars I'm afraid. Think it's partly down to being able to find every last issue with the engine, gearbox and rear axle out of the car - issues that might go unnoticed on other cars until they cause an issue are easily spotted with everything out of the car. I've had a few issues sorted this service that you simply couldn't see had the engine not come out. It makes for a big hit in one go when you have a major done but hopefully it means everything's sorted for the years of driving between them.

Fully agree. I decide to do everything what need to be done when the engine is out. There is still sometning what need some love, but that I will keep for next year. Some of the points will do myself, so for sure the pictures will come :)

It takes some time (did not expect that), but there was lot more to do than I imagine. Even one head need to come off to eliminate the leackages. Fortunatelly the car finaly drives. I receive the info from workshop that exhoust thermocouple on one bank is not working and sometimes the engine error light comes on the dash.
I have checked the price, and what I can see? £550 for coupe version and only £106 for spider version! Spider runs the same engine, so there can be only some cable length change, I think.
Do you have any experiance with? I think is it worth to take a risk for £400.

No experience of this particular part, but plenty of experience of nonsensical Ferrari parts pricing.

For £106, it's worth a punt, and if it doesn't work, I'm sure someone will take it off your hands for not much less than it cost you - thermocouples do go bad from time to time.

is it the thermocouple or the exhaust ecu at fault? if the thermocouple, have a look on the parts equivalent thread on ferrarichat for 348/355z. most likely a common part with other cars and can be had for £4!

if its the exhaust ecu causing the issue; just disconnect them, most everyone does. they are only there to protect the cats from getting fried, and new cats are same as an exhaust ecu!

Could be wrong, it was a while ago, but seem to recall I had to when I switched to modern high flow cats as they run a different temperature to the old OEM cats which I had taken out.

Hi,
the thermocouple for coupe is common with F40- that make the price difference (most probably). This week I should get the car back, so I will start to play and find the solution.

I meant common with other non ferrari cars; eg the crank sensors are common with kia etc. and cost a fraction of the “ferrari” price.

The strap just goes round the brown leather toolbox but there are 2 types - a wide one like that and a narrower one. Could be yours has been replaced and the strap in the car fits the narrower toolbox.

the black thing isnt part of the oem tool box, just the leather case.

always had mine as you have yours. strap lenghth never an issue. (if you need a new strap about the cheapest thing ferrari sell!)

Runs, and drives. The bill was massive, but finally my 60km behind the wheel done. It is fantastic.
Engine bay was cleaned, touched with a bit of paint, heads covers butifly painted in red, and the headers cleaned.

Looks and sounds great. Enjoy her (y)

Looks the box should be higher and thinner to fit the strap.
Most probably I will just replace the strap.

The car look, sounds and driver like a milion dolar. I bought it Jan 2022, so I was waiting more than 2 years to drive it. Fun fact is, that I was called by workshop to pick it up at my 40th birthday :)
But...
When I'm filling the tank with gas it stopa several time. Looks for me like gas tank breather issue. Any suggestion where to look to repair?

need some more details. you imply you are leaving the engine running when you are filling the tank? does the engine only cut out then?

I read the petrol pump he's using cuts out while he's filling but could be wrong. My daily does this if you put the nozzle all the way in, for some reason need to be inserted into the filler fractionally less than all the way or the pump just keeps cutting out. Maybe give that a go first?
