well having spent a few happy hours at the local OPC I have decided to wait for the new 718 Cayman - which I should be able to order from April for Del later in the year - or if I find my perfect spec 2nd hand in the mean time at a decent price I will go that route.

perfect

You want a nice, shy, retiring colour like my new GT4

Bought a Cayman as my daily a couple of months back. Its a cracking little car that i can just about get away with at work without the rednecks giving me grief :)

Have a new 718s Boxter due in May, looking forward to the new (old) technology :)

Was in a similar position as you Mark but for MRS V, was looking s/h Gen 2 Cayman for around £30k but once she had seen the GTS next to a std cayman she had to have it !

Ended up getting a year old GTS with Carbon seats, PDK etc, fantastic car  dare i say better than my F430  The 430 will be up for sale soon.

Will be interesting to see what the GT4 is going to be like

Well I've never had a Porsche, and the Cayman is such a pretty car.......was seriously tempted to get rid of the 430 - esp considering some of the offers I have had. But in the end it would have been like selling my left leg - so i'm keeping it.

just need to use it more

I had an original 2.5 litre which was woefully underpowered for the chassis, then a later 'S' which was a great car.

As said by others, great fun and also totally practical and bulletproof. The Cayman a better car for driving if you don't want a soft top. GT4 amazing, hence the huge premium to get one.

IMHO as near as you can get to a no-regrets purchase

Grief! That 718 sounds more like a Harley on standard pipes than anything else. Does it drop onto 2 cylinders when going slowly?

I must admit it does sound a bit grim and Def needs the PSE ....that's Porsche Sports Exhaust and Not Porn Star experience , mind you bet they would throw one in on expenses if it closed the deal.

now that's a thought...

I'm not a big Porsche fan, but a Cayman is so pretty and

I have a GT4 and have also just tried a 718 Boxster S.

To be honest I'd rather have the earlier Cayman GTS over a 718 as in most situations it's not far off the GT4 in terms of enjoyment and gives the right noise and response. If I flipped my GT4 and bought a GTS for £30k less I wouldn't feel shortchanged.

The new car seems too clinical and even with PSE the noise just doesn't sound right to me for a Porsche. Even though it has a lot more torque and feels punchier from low revs.
