SuperCar Clinic - bolton

Good Morning,
This must be my first thread in years. I'm having an annual on my 360 and decided to try The SuperCar Clinic in Bolton. Reason being is at some point I will probably swap my 360 for an R8 (as I retire). Anyone any experience of them?
 
I haven't, Malc. I'll be honest, I've always been a bit skeptical of these multicar specialists who seem to specialise in almost every performance car, which in my mind means they specialise in none. Perhaps it's not quite the same with a newer model as there are more of them about but I've always felt that they'll probably only see a 348 once in a blue moon if ever. My guess is I'm not alone in this view which is probably unfair, they may be excellent.

I'm not sure I get the link though - you might sell the 360 soon so you're looking at servicing her this time at what many may see as a non-specialist? Won't the most recent service history be the most important to any potential buyer?

As I say, all of the above is merely a perception, ironically reinforced by the excellent rates these types of places offer and they may well be very good. Would be interested in your experience of them.

I had bad experience with a similar firm not far from me. They did Supercars, but it came back with the same oil filter fitted, the clutch bleed block hadnt been changed and I wondered if they did anything at all to my 430. I was left feeling like it was all bullshit .
Also I would be very warry about purchasing a Ferrari that hasnt got either dealer or well known and regarded Ferrari specialist stamps in the book. In some respects the specialists might be better with older models as they have more experience dealing with the type, than the shiny main dealer with posh coffee and the supermodel receptionist. 🤣
Also If someone is serious about buying your car, they are likely to have done some research on who is best to service etc, and might even ask one of the specialist to inspect it, so an unknown generic specialist service might be a red flag.

I guess this is sort of what I'm getting at above, albeit without personal experience. These places offer excellent rates but I've often wondered if it may be false economy compared to using the slightly more expensive type specialists who really know the cars or significantly more expensive main dealers, regardless of whether you're keeping or selling.

Of course, this might just be sour grapes as my car is shortly to be returned to me from one of the afore mentioned specialists for an engine out belts change and major service and they've been so bleedin' thorough I've got a very big bill coming so perhaps you should ignore any advice I give .......... 😂

Yep - sign of an owner looking to save a few bob, warning sirens if the book is full of these. Best to stick with the known Indies imho whether keeping or selling
 
Good morning and some interesting replies. I took the car and what was really nice is the price they advertised for the service was the price I paid. I find that quite rare. I have a small list of things that need addressing, one being a worn gearbox mount. The cam seals are leaking slightly (probably down to lack of use) but not enough to be concerned about just yet.
Several bolt heads have been sheared from the undertray and I think that perhaps I misjudged one of several billion speed humps near home :-(.

However what was really good was the chap (Dave) that serviced my 360 serviced them when they were new. He worked with Adam Eyres (AE Performance) in Knutsford and his B-i-L is friends with Nigel and Nick at R&D at Stratstones when F355's and 360's were new. Dave is older than me, which is really old :LOL:

Pete, I'm not selling my 360 until I retire (earliest) and that is another 6 or 7 years unless something changes before then. That something would be my finances in which case I'll be buried in it :ROFLMAO:. I have thought about a change when I retire and still like R8's. Currently an R8 would give me some money to look after it compared to what my 360 is worth. Could all change of course.

Ultimately I took a small chance with SCC of Bolton but am pleased with the result.
SCC have good reviews on Google.

As for what people expect from a Ferrari service from experience of trying to sell mine a few years ago it matters little because they mostly take the piss with the offers they make asking for a £5k discount for example because a window trim had 'peeled' slightly. I suspect if I ever sell my 360 it'll be to a reputable dealer such as WalkerSport. Sure I'll lose out a little perhaps but won't have to put up with the bullshit buyer.
 
I always thought the goto place in the North West was A & E Engineering

Adam is good as are Nick & Nigel of R&D Automotive. I took it to SCC to see what they were like for a potential future car. The logistics for me are a bit of a PITA using Adam as I have to rely on my daughter or pal to drop me off/pick me up. I am about 25 miles from Adam which is 54 minutes (by car) as of 7:26am and 2 hours 33 on the train. I tried the train once and I won't try it again.
SCC and R&D are much easier. SCC 20 minutes and £15 in an Uber or 45 minutes to an hour £4 on the bus. R&D I can actually take a 50 minute walk home down the canal. They back on to the Bridgewater canal and I don't live that far from it further along.

Those are the ones I fear. I had one on my F355 along with several £1000's spent in getting it through emission tests over about three years. My first belt service on my 360 was hefty but there was a bit of other non related work required.
